KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — WMU suffered a computer network failure yesterday on the final day of exams, just as professors were grading tests and trying to post grades.
Some text books, research papers and even on-line exams rely on access to the internet. The first notice of the failure went out at noon but few received it because the network was down.
Stress levels were reportedly sky high on campus.
WMU officials issued a tweet saying they would make accommodations for students who are impacted by the outage.
They were trying to restore some systems by mid-afternoon.
Websites have been restored this morning but no update has been issued.
Provost Jennifer Bott issued a statement and said due to the outage, the exam period will now end at midnight Friday.
Academic affairs has asked faculty members to accommodate students on a class-by-class basis.
