KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo County Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Council is asking for the public’s help locating a suspect that stole one of their donation boxes.
The boxes were set up at local businesses around the area for Child Abuse Prevention Month so donors could give money in exchange for a KCAN pin.
But KCAN Executive Director Sarah Joshi says that on Thursday she found out that one of the donation boxes was stolen.
Staff at Old Burdick’s Bar and Grill in downtown Kalamazoo contacted police after they found the smashed donation box and all the money taken.
Joshi adds, “Nothing can be more important than protecting our local children, so we at KCAN are disheartened that someone put their greed above this important cause. We’re hoping that this unfortunate event spurs our community on to be even more supportive of this weekend’s Be a Lifesaver campaign.“
Throughout the weekend volunteers will be out in front of Harding’s, Walmart, and other local businesses collecting donations for KCAN.
Donors can also give on their website.
