GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO AM/FM) — The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids is issuing a “Red Flag” fire warning for most of Southwest Michigan.
This means the combination of high winds, low relative humidity, and higher temperatures can contribute to “extreme fire behavior.”
Forecasters predict winds south 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph, relative humidity as low as 25%, and temps in the 70’s to possible 80’s.
Burn restrictions are in effect for some areas and the controlled burn near the Asylum Lake Preserve in Kalamazoo will most likely not happen today.
Counties in the Red Flag zone include: Kalamazoo, Mason, Lake, Osceola, Clare, Oceana, Newaygo, Mecosta, Isabella, Muskegon, Montcalm, Gratiot, Ottawa, Kent, Ionia, Clinton, Allegan, Barry, Eaton, Ingham, Van Buren, Calhoun and Jackson.
The is in effect until 8 p.m. Monday.
More information on burn restrictions can be found at michigan.gov and what to do during a wildfire can be found here.
