GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO AM/FM) — A lot of tears at the sentencing hearing for Quinn James, the man convicted of raping and later murdering 16-year-old Mujay Dumbuya to keep her from testifying against him about the sexual assaults.
He dumped her body in a wooded area on Kalamazoo’s north side, hoping to put investigators off his trail.
The sentence was mandatory life without parole.
The family brought two pictures of the victim, one of a happy smiling teenager, the other in her coffin and showed it to the Kent County judge during their victim impact statement.
Quinn James broke down during his statement, claiming he was innocent and hurt to be described as a rapist and a killer. Still there was no expression of remorse. They plan to appeal.
