PORTAGE (WKZO AM/FM) — Portage City Manager Larry Shaffer had a lot of good news as he presented next year’s proposed budget to the Council this week.
His proposal calls for a 10.5% increase in spending and the addition of three more Public Safety Officers.
It also proposes a slight reduction in the millage rate and fees for water and sewer service. General fund expenditures will remain stable.
Shaffer says most of the additional $8.1-million they will be spending will be on infrastructure improvements to roads, water and sewer systems.
He says the additional revenue is coming from growth in their tax base.
They plan public meetings to present more detail to the council, and take questions on April 16th and 30th.
The total budget in Portage this year will be nearly $85-million dollars.
They say you should be able to view a copy of his proposed budget at the city’s website.
