DOWAGIAC (WKZO AM/FM) — A Dowagiac woman is facing three felony charges and four misdemeanor counts after two of her three dogs died in an overheated car over the weekend at Four Winds in Dowagiac.
Cass County Prosecutor Victor Fitz says the three felonies are for the torture and killing of animals, the misdemeanors are for animal abuse and for lying to a police officer.
49-year-old Sherill Langford claimed she came out to check on the dogs, when video surveillance showed she was inside the casino for hours, before returning to her car.
By then Tribal Police had been alerted about the problem and responded.
It’s a timely reminder now that spring has arrived that it doesn’t take much to turn a vehicle with its windows rolled up, into an oven on sunny days.
