BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — It’s a familiar scam, and a 92-year-old Battle Creek man fell for it.
Someone claiming to be his grandson phoned from Florida saying that he had been arrested in Lansing after he struck a woman from Florida with his car and was taken to the Sunshine State to be prosecuted.
Another man came on the phone claiming to be his grandson’s lawyer and said he needed $15,000 for bond that he could send FedEx.
The victim followed the instructions and a few days later called his grandson to see if he had been released.
That’s when he learned that none of it had actually occurred and he had been scammed.
Police in Florida went to the address he sent the money to and no one was there.
