KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — The Executive Director of Kalamazoo County’s Transportation Authority says ridership on the Metro buses actually dropped a little last year, despite extended hours and new weekend service.
Sean McBride reported to Kalamazoo Township Monday night that the healthy economy and low unemployment rates meant that more of the people who normally rode the bus to and from work every day, were able to afford cars of their own.
That would add up to about a thousand rides a year for one person, and that reduced their totals.
He says still they provided 2.7-million rides last year on their line-haul service.
That total will increase this year because this fall every high school student in Kalamazoo Schools will get a free bus pass to use anytime they want.
