LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — As we reported earlier this year, Kalamazoo Schools Superintendent Michael Rice is a finalist for the Job of State Superintendent of Schools.
He is one of five finalists announced by the State Board of Education that were chosen for interviews.
Also in the running, Randy Liepa, the Superintendent for the Wayne County Educational Service Agency, who was also a finalist the last time the job opened. Jeanice Swift, the CEO of Ann Arbor Public Schools is the third contender from Michigan.
From out of state, Brenda Cassellius, a former Education Commissioner in the State of Minnesota, and Eric Thomas, who is a turnaround officer for the Georgia State Board.
They were chosen from 51 candidates.
The State School Board has scheduled three interview dates and hopes to make a decision on May 7th.
We asked Dr. Rice about the job opening last Thursday and he had no comment.
