KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Ordinance changes meant to decriminalize Kalamazoo city violations could actually criminalize another.
Commissioners were asked to approve them this week but decided to delay them until their next meeting after resident Jeff Messer complained they didn’t have a chance to review them.
This package of ordinance changes sparked the homeless encampment in Bronson Park last year, but those proposals have been removed from this version.
The package would create a new misdemeanor for the organizers of off-campus parties that get out of hand, or participants in the X-train. It’s called the Nuisance Party Ordinance.
Other sections adds graffiti to the list of things homeowners are required to immediately address, and would change the definition of nuisance grass from a foot to 8 inches, making it subject to warnings, citations and fines at that lower height.
Commissioners will consider the changes on the 15th.
