ANN ARBOR, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Former Governor Rick Snyder may no longer in office, but that apparently won’t get him off the hook for his alleged role in the Flint water crisis.
After initially dismissing Snyder from the class action suit filed by Flint citizens, the Ann Arbor Republican has been reinstated to the lawsuit after the plaintiffs submitted new facts late last year.
They claim they have suffered financial losses and other damages because they say Snyder knew there were high levels of lead in the water system months before going public, and did nothing about it.
Judge Judith Levy said the new allegations included claims of “conscience shocking conduct.”
“Plaintiffs plausibly state that the Governor acted indifferently to the risk of harm they faced, demonstrating a callous disregard for their right to bodily integrity. This indifference manifested itself in two ways. Initially, the Governor was indifferent because instead of mitigating the risk of harm caused by the contaminated water, he covered it up…..he denied all knowledge, despite being aware of the developing crisis.”
The plaintiffs are seeking financial compensation, repairs to private property, medical monitoring and someone appointed to oversee the development of other remedial plans.
