GALESBURG (WKZO AM/FM) — After a town forum on the topic Monday night, the Galesburg City Commission has decided to opt out of recreational marijuana businesses for now.
Like officials in other cities, they say they just don’t have enough information from the State of Michigan on how they will be regulated, what the fee structures will be like and other questions to commit at this point.
The City of Portage has taken a similar stand, making it clear they plan to revisit the issue when the State has gone through the rule-making process.
Ross Township has opted out, making it clear that they do not want Marijuana in their community, no matter what the regulations are.
The City of Kalamazoo has taken no action, saying a decision whether to opt in or out is premature until the State drafts regulations, and that won’t happen until December.
