MATTAWAN (WKZO AM/FM) — Plans for protests Friday at the Charles River Labs in Mattawan have been cancelled, after animal rights groups learned that the firm has halted testing a new agricultural product on beagles.
A video secretly recorded by a member of the Humane Society who went undercover at the plant to expose what happens there, went viral.
Corteva Agriscience has since suspended the testing and just this week, reached an arrangement with the Humane Society to find ‘forever homes’ for the three dozen dogs.
Corteva which is a division of Dow Chemical, released this statement about the beagles.
“We fully appreciate the concern for the well-being of the dogs and we take their rehoming very seriously. Finding caring, safe homes for all the dogs in the study has been our priority and we are pleased to have reached an agreement with the Michigan Humane Society (MHS) to rehome the animals.”
