HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Renowned underwater photographer Becky Kagan Schott is the keynote speaker for the 21st annual “Evening beneath the Inland Seas” shipwreck show sponsored by Holland-based Michigan Shipwreck Research Association.
The annual program set for 7 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019, at the Knickerbocker Theater in Holland.
Kagan Schott’s program, “Illuminating Imagery – Great Lakes Shipwrecks” takes viewers on a journey through the Great Lakes showcasing some of the most spectacular shipwrecks in each of the lakes — from schooners to freighters, ferries, to side-wheel steamers.
Her photography & video tour will take attendees into the depths to illuminate these ships in a new way and spark the imagination. She has dived in Antarctica, the Arctic and hundreds of places in between; her favorite location is the Great Lakes.
With five Emmy-Awards, Kagan Schott’s work is regularly seen on major networks including National Geographic and Discovery Channel.
She co-owns Liquid Productions, specializing in obtaining underwater video from challenging aquatic environments. Her participation in dozens of exploration projects earned her a place as a Fellow in the Explorers Club.
In 2013, she was inducted into the Women Divers Hall of Fame.
John Janzen will also speak at Saturday’s show, about documenting his dive to the wreck of the Senator, a freighter which sank in more than 400 feet of water in northern Lake Michigan in 1929 with a cargo of nearly 300 brand new Nash Automobiles.
His dive, with John Scoles, is the deepest dive into Lake Michigan. His images and video reveal an 90-year old underwater historic car collection.
MSRA Co-Directors Craig Rich and Valerie van Heest will chronicle the history and mystery of west Michigan’s own Chicora, which once again is in the news as being found last summer.
TV-13’s Brent Ashcroft describes his coverage of MSRA’s shipwreck discoveries, including the most recent of the White Lake channel wreck.
Author and diver Joan Forsberg, with van Heest, will chronicle their recent adventures with host Josh Gates and the TV show “Expedition Unknown” on a hunt for the elusive wreck of the “Griffon.”
