LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) — Michigan’s minimum wage is set to increase from $9.25 to $9.45 per hour March 29, 2019, according to an announcement from Michigan’s Wage and Hour Division.
Overtime requirements remain the same: non-exempt employees should be paid 1.5 times their regular rate of pay for hours worked over 40 in a 7-day work week.
Employers may continue to pay minors 16 to 17 years old 85 percent of the minimum hourly wage rate, which rises on March 29 from $7.86 to $8.03 per hour.
The training rate, $4.25/hour, remains unchanged for newly hired employees, 16 to 19 years old, for the first 90 days of employment.
Tipped employees may be paid 38 percent of the minimum hourly wage rate which rises from $3.52 to $3.59), provided that they are informed in advance of being paid about the tip provisions, and that those employees receive tips and gratuities — and such tips, combined with the hourly rate, equals or exceeds the minimum wage.
