GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO AM/FM) — A Battle Creek woman has been given three years in a federal penitentiary and ordered to pay over a half a million in back taxes and penalties for allegedly embezzling millions and not reporting it to the IRS.
52-year-old Tammy Sue Burdette gambled most of the money away according to U.S. Attorney Andrew Birge.
They claim as the Office Manager at the Vascular Health Center in Battle Creek, siphoned $3-million from the medical facility’s accounts and failed to report it as income, depriving “the American Taxpayers of $569,852 in tax revenue,” according to IRS Special Agent Manny Muriel.
The news release was timed to send a message to everyone preparing their tax forms to be sure to report all their income, even apparently if it comes from illegal activities.
