KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A 58-year-old man is lucky to be alive after he was hit by an Amtrak train that was leaving Kalamazoo’s downtown station.
It happened around 1:30 p.m. Sunday just east of the station on Burdick Street.
Public Safety officers say the man was trespassing on Amtrak property by walking too close to the rails and seemed to ignore the horn, flashing lights, and the safety gate.
It was apparently captured on a surveillance video.
The train was going slow and hit the brakes before hitting the man.
He was taken to Bronson Methodist where he was last listed in stable condition.
