HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Two separate traffic crashes at US-31 and Lake Michigan Drive early Wednesday morning ended with one driver in jail awaiting charges, and two women in area hospitals — one of them in labor.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Brian Buter said the first crash happened just before 8 a.m., after the suspect had been driving a black 2003 Chevy Uplander north on U.S. 31 but struck the back of a 2001 Jeep being driven by West Olive resident Christina Ellis, 36.
At that point the Uplander driver attempted to flee the scene, Buter said, going west on Lake Michigan Drive. But he failed to yield to a southbound 2014 Toyota Camry, being driving by Holland resident Brandy Ketchum, 45.
A pregnant passenger in the suspect’s car went into labor and Ketchum was taken to a nearby hospital for crash-related injuries, Buter said.
The suspect’s name is being withheld until after his arraignment, Buter said.
