COOPER TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — The suspected gunman in Tuesday Morning’s shooting in Cooper Township has been found dead, while his victim, a prominent local businessman remains in very critical condition.
The victim, identified as Brent Hook, the owner of Tough Coat Custom Product Coating was the apparent target of the gunman.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to the business around 8:30 Tuesday morning in at 455 West D Avenue in Cooper Township. Hook was reportedly found shot by one of his employees after they reported to work. Hook was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery.
Deputies were able to obtain information at the scene on a possible suspect. When they went to his home in southern Allegan County near Otsego, they found the suspect dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Local area schools including Parchment, Plainwell, and Otsego schools were placed on lock down shortly after the shooting, after an emergency alert was issued in the area.
Kalamazoo Nature Center was also closed for a couple of hours at the request of the Sheriff’s Department.
But officials later said that there was no threat to public.
Few details have been released at this time, but more may be released on Wednesday.
