OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Michigan State Police are now confirming that a train-car collision just west of Kalamazoo in Oshtemo Township has killed all three people in the car.
The victims have been identified at 20-year-old Jarmaine Brown, 19-year-old Marcionna Edwards, and 18-year-old Jordan Brooks all from Kalamazoo.
State Police Sgt. Chris Hayward says all three were killed when the high speed passenger rail train struck the northbound car at 11th Street at around 10:00 pm Sunday night.
Wolverine #355 was running 45-minutes late when it left the Kalamazoo Station, heading from Pontiac to Chicago.
There were no flashing lights or gates down at the crossing when we arrived but the train had moved some distance down the tracks after the collision before it could stop.
Witnesses say the lights and gates were functioning as the train went through the crossing.
Hayward says there were no injuries on board the train.
He says they are investigating the collision and are not ready yet to release any details about how it occurred.
