KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The intersection of Oakland and Howard Street has reopened a day ahead of what had been previously announced.
It opened late Sunday morning after a leak in a larger gas line forced crews to tear up the road surface to get down to the pipe.
They are blaming rollercoaster temperatures for the break.
Fixing the pipe was the easy part. Repairing the roadway was the difficult and time consuming element of the project.
They had originally said it would reopen at 7 am but an inspection showed it had cured and hardened sufficiently to be reopened just before noon on Sunday.
