RICHLAND TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — A Richland girl’s story about being accosted by a middle-aged black male earlier this week sounded fishy, and now the Police Chief in Richland has confirmed that the 12-year-old made it all up.
The description of a heavy set black male wearing a flannel shirt and a necklace with a dollar sign pendant sounded more like a cartoon stereotype than a real human being.
The girl could be charged with filing a false-police report but considering her age, it’s not clear whether that will happen.

—ORIGIONAL STORY—
RICHLAND TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo County Deputies say they are investigating a suspicious situation involving a 12-year-old girl and a man who may have tried to abduct her.
The girl says she was walking home from school along M-89 in Richland Township at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday when she was approached by a heavy set black male who tried to coax her into his car.
She says he appeared to be in his 40’s, was balding on top, about 5’5” tall wearing a red and white flannel shirt and a gold necklace with a dollar sign for a pendant.
He was driving a white station wagon with red and orange stripes on the side.
She did just the right thing and ran off and reported it to adults.
Deputies are asking anyone who might recognize the suspect from that description to give them a call.
Call Silent Observer at 343-2100 or the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department at 383-8748.
