BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — It’s now another reason to put the phone down while driving.
Last night the Battle Creek City Commission approved a new city ordinance that could mean a ticket for any driver caught using a handheld phone while driving in the community.
It’s the Commissions way of addressing the problem of distracted drivers.
Commissioner Kaytee Faris, who proposed the ordinance, says the State Law only makes it a violation if you are caught texting while driving.
Their ordinance applies to doing anything with a hand held phone but it does not include hands-free devices.
The new ordinance takes effect on February 15th.
