BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — Battle Creek’s Fire Department had to fight two fires back to back Friday afternoon.
The first began in the back of a home at 24 S. Cedar. The fire was causing a lot of black smoke that could be seen before fire crews arrived and it caused extensive damage throughout the home.
They were able to save a neighbor’s garage from the spreading flames.
It began at about 12:30 pm.
Crews were still at that scene three hours later when a call came in from 76 Margaret St., on the other side of Battle Creek, that another fire had started in the back of a home there.
It also caused extensive damage before fire crews were able to bring it under control.
They had to work around a live Consumers Energy electrical wire.
There were no injuries at either fire scene and both will be investigated by the Fire Marshal.
