OTSEGO (WKZO AM/FM) — An Otsego man is suing the city, claiming his first amendment rights were violated when he was ticketed for posting large signs in his yard reading “Impeach Trump” and “Nazis Not Welcome.”
Michael Ransbottom claims a couple of his signs were stolen.
They city largely ignored the signs until they got a complaint from a neighbor.
Ransbottom was warned that the sign violated the city’s sign ordinance because it was too big, and when he didn’t take it down, he was ticketed.
The city doesn’t comment on pending lawsuits, but they have filed a response, asking that the case be dismissed because the ticket was issued for the size of the sign, not its content.
