HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity is closed as are a host of other businesses. So are many area restaurants, including Russ’ and DeBoer’s.
Customers don’t seem to mind, though.
Russ’ and DeBoers posted messages on their facebook pages and comments included one from Melissa Bond-Wieringa , who commented on Russ’ page: “God bless you for caring more about your employees than the almighty dollar.”
Pamela Scott Gafa wrote on DeBoer’s page, “Thanks I wish more employers would be like this and keep everyone safe.”
WHTC Midday host Ed VerSchure stopped by Taco Bell for breakfast, which was closed, and there his car stalled. He managed to get it going again and confessed — he didn’t have enough layers of clothes on to have car trouble in this weather. He’s OK, however.
His cautionary tale is a reminder that anyone planning on visiting a business should call ahead to ensure they are open today, Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019.
Emergency responders, medical personnel, utility workers, truck drivers, factory workers remain on the job, and many grocery stores are opened. A concerned mom wrote WHTC to remind grocery shoppers to return carts to the store — or at least the corrals — to limit the risk of frostbite for those who work outside collecting those carts and keeping walkways cleared.
