GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO AM/FM) — The government may be shut down but someone was still doing their job.
When three Lansing area men arrived at Gerald R. Ford Airport to send one of them off to join the terrorist group ISIS Monday, authorities were ready for them.
The U.S. Attorney’s office claims Muse Muse had a ticket that would have eventually gotten him to Somalia, where he planned to join ISIS forces.
Along with his brother Mohamud Muse and cousin Mohamed Haji, they had recorded videos pledging allegiance to the terrorist group, and to commit a terrorist act in the U.S. if they could not join the fighting overseas.
Their intentions were apparently spotted on social media three years ago. The Joint Terrorism Task Force set up meetings with undercover agents several times and they recorded incriminating statements.
All three were Kenyan immigrants with U.S. citizenship.
They are all charged with conspiring to provide material support to a terrorist organization, and could get up to 20 years if convicted.
