KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — It’s been half a century since the death of Martin Luther King Jr. but his message of unity and equality seems just as relevant these days given the political and racial division that exists in the nation.
That truth was evident listening to the speakers who were welcomed to Martin Luther King Park by Mayor Bobby Hopewell.
They addressed the crowd that traveled to the park despite the bitter cold late Monday afternoon for the annual MLK Day observance.
WMU Diversity Director Dr. Candy McCorkle says the struggle continues. KVCC President L. Marshall Washington says it speaks to the importance of the King Holiday, saying they must continue to teach younger Americans about the legacy of Dr. King and help them serve the community.
More events are scheduled on campuses and at schools this week.
