SCHOOLCRAFT (WKZO AM/FM) — A hit and run driver is in custody after striking a car that contained a woman and her 7-year-old daughter just after 8:00 p.m. Thursday just south of Schoolcraft.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff deputies say the 54-year-old driver entered the intersection of XY Avenue and U.S. 131 in a Silver SUV, without yielding to traffic and struck the other vehicle.
The SUV then turned around and headed back where it came from, eastbound on XY Avenue.
Deputies were able to identify the driver of the SUV and that person was later arrested for “operating under the influence of alcohol and high body alcohol content,” according to the press release.
The 36-year-old mother and her daughter both from Three Rivers were treated at the scene for minor injuries and were not hospitalized.
The at fault driver’s name is not being released until after he is arraigned.
