ALLEGAN COUNTY (WHTC-AM/FM) — Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies joined an early morning chase of a wrong-way driver on I-196 early this morning, and ultimately stopped and arrested the driver.
He was first reported driving erratically in Ottawa County, and by 2:54 a.m., Jan. 17, 2019, the driver was spotted on the freeway’s eastbound lanes, headed west. Police later determined the 23-year-old male driver was under the influence of both alcohol and marijuana. He was arrested and faces a charge of driving while intoxicated.
The suspect passed this deputy, failing to stop for his lights and siren. His name is being withheld until after arraignment.
