HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — On Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, thousands of people, mostly women, will head to Washington, D.C for the third of what appears to be an annual march.
In Michigan, people who aren’t trekking to D.C. will be holding their own “sister” marches — in Holland, Saugatuck and Douglas, Benton Harbor, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Detroit, Marquette and Adrian.
The walks are intended to be peaceful demonstrations.
At 11 a.m. Saturday one march starts at Douglas’ Beery Park, ending a little more than a mile later at Lucy’s Little Kitchen in Saguatuck.
Holland’s march starts at noon, Saturday, and circles Centennial Park, at 10th Street and River Avenue.
In each case, marchers will hear from speakers urging them to vote in every election, keep in touch with elected officials to keep them accountable, or even run for public office.
Event organizers advise marchers to dress in warm layers.
Organizers say people of all ages and any gender are welcome to attend, but remind anyone choosing to participate to act lawfully, behave peacefully and dress in layers. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 20s and it may snow Saturday.
