KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Thousands of residents in the Edison and Milwood areas and in Pavilion Township spent Sunday night in the dark, and some in the cold after problems involving a Consumers Energy substations. .
At the peak more than 10,000 customers were impacted when the problem occurred at around 5:20pm.
They keep pushing the time for restoration of service back, until sometime early Monday morning.
Power has been restored to a majority of the homes, but Milwood Elementary School, Milwood Middle School and Greenwood Elementary are all closed Monday morning due to the outage.
Consumers spokesperson. Debra Dodd says they had a chain reaction of small failures that impacted several substations.
Power in Pavilion Township was restored after midnight, in the Edison neiborhood a few hours later and finally in Milwood before 6am.
