HARTFORD TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — A young man from Benton Harbor may face charges if he survives the injuries suffered in a high speed head-on collision that killed two others, including a young child Saturday Afternoon.
Van Buren County deputies believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Deputies say the 23-year-old at-fault driver crossed the centerline on Red Arrow Highway just east of Hartford at about 2:30 pm, slamming his Chevy Equinox into a Jeep Cherokee driven by a 73-year-old woman from Paw Paw who was coming in the opposite direction.
The elderly driver of the Jeep was dead at the scene. A 57-year-old passenger from that vehicle were last listed in critical condition at Bronson Methodist.
The at-fault driver and a one year old passenger are also in critical condition.
A 6-year-old girl from Coloma who was riding in the SUV was taken to Lakeland Hospital in Waterviliet, where she later died. No names have been released.
