ANN ARBOR (WKZO AM/FM) — A new study done in Ann Arbor shows that legal users of marijuana are not always being smart about it.
The study conducted on medical marijuana users found that half admit to getting behind the wheel of a vehicle less than two hours after using marijuana in the last six months.
Many don’t wait long enough before driving.
University of Michigan Researcher Dr. Erin Bonar says that means they were driving with impaired judgements.
She says more needs to be done to educate marijuana users who may not realize just how mind altering he substances can be, and how long it can take to recover.
She says the problem will just get worse when recreational marijuana becomes readily available, and more people have access to the drug.
It may be legal to possess marijuana, and grow it, and one day to even buy it or sell it with the proper licenses, but it is not now nor will ever be legal to drive under its influence.
