HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland residents James and Barbara Chance, parents of murder suspect Jared Chance, will each go to trial for perjury and being an accessories after the fact for their alleged roles in the cover-up of the death and dismemberment of Ashley Young of Oshtemo.
Barbara Chance waived her preliminary hearing.
James Chance is a retired police officer. His attorney argued that James Chance fulfilled his obligation as a citizen to report the crime by walking into a Grand Rapids police station with his son.
Kent County’s Prosecutor says Jared Chance immediately demanded to have a lawyer and left two minutes after entering. He says that was part of the cover-up.
Jared Chance is due in court today for his preliminary exam.
