KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — It came as a surprise, but Kalamazoo’s Uber killer has decided to plead guilty on the day of his trial.
Jason Dalton, the man charged with shooting 8 people killing 6 of them as he picked up Uber passengers in the Kalamazoo area in February 2016 has now entered a guilty plea to all the counts against him.
His attorney told the court that his decision was because he did not want to put his family or the victims families through trial.
When asked if he was sure about his plea decision Dalton replied, “Yes I’ve wanted this for quite a while.”
This includes six counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder and eight counts of felony use of a firearm.
Dalton will be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after he spends up to 16 years in prison for the 8 consecutive felony firearm charges.
Some of the victim’s family members broke down in tears as Dalton admitted to each killing.
His sentencing is set for 10 a.m., Feb. 5, 2019.
