KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The week after Christmas is one of the trashiest of the year. All the gift wrapping, shipping boxes, packing material, and empty packaging have to go somewhere.
Recycling as much as you can would be best, and it’s never been easier in Kalamazoo and several other local communities now that they have gone to single stream recycling, which can take all those shipping boxes off your hands.
City Manager Jim Ritsema says it working in Kalamazoo.
Since its implementation the amount of recycling has increased in the city.
But there are a lot of things that they won’t take that can be recycled for future Christmases.
Bows can be reapplied with a little scotch tape. Gift bags and in some cases gift wrapping can be saved and used again. Just make sure you remove any cards.
According to the city of Kalamazoo’s Facebook page, Christmas trees can also be recycled.
Residents can drop off real holiday trees at the Bank Street Market parking lot through January 31st as long as all ornaments and other decorations are removed.
