KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The Governor has something nice for Bronson Hospital Doctor Lucas Niec this Christmas.
The local physician has been granted a pardon by Governor Rick Snyder for some teenage scrapes with the law that got him in trouble with the Immigration Service.
He spent over a month in jail earlier this year before he was able to secure a date for a hearing and was released.
The pardon should help the Doctor in that hearing since the crimes that could have gotten him deported have been effectively wiped from the books.
Niec moved to the U.S. with his parents from Poland when he was 5 and has a permanent green card. He says he now plans to seek citizenship.
Niec was one of 61, including 13 convicted murderers who received pardons or commutations from Rick Snyder. It’s something Governor’s do as they are leaving office.
