EMMETT TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Emmett Township Public Safety officials are warning local businesses about a new scam.
The con man called up an employee at a local firm posing as an investigator from their corporate office, who was conducting an internal probe, and ordered the employee to take money out of the cash register, convert them into gift cards and then forward the card numbers to a specified number.
Township Police say it’s a tip-off it’s a scam anytime someone tries to get you to use gift cards to make a payment or transfer money, especially during a telephone call from someone you don’t know.
