KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Bad news for some Kalamazoo motorists.
Worse news for downtown businesses that have already had to put up with construction blocking Michigan Avenue for the past week, making it difficult to get to their shops on the Downtown Mall, right during the heart of the Christmas Shopping season.
The news now is that Michigan will remain bottlenecked to one lane through this coming Monday.
They have a map with detour routes at the city’s website. If there is any good news, it’s that there are usually fewer vehicles downtown on a weekend.
An emergency construction project in Portage is also taking longer than expected.
East Shore Drive between Cox’s Drive and Branch Avenue was shut down earlier this week for emergency sewer work. The road was supposed to reopen yesterday, but Portage officials say due to unforeseen conditions, the road will now remain closed until next Friday,
December 21st. Through traffic is not permitted but drivers can take alternative routes on Cox’s Drive, South Sprinkle Road, and Branch Avenue.
They’re also reminding drivers to be alert and drive slowly while they’re near the construction site.
