LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — As he prepares to leave office Governor Snyder hoped gave an exit interview to reporters in Lansing on Tuesday, complete with a 52-page report detailing all the good things they did, categorized by the various departments.
He hoped to burnish his legacy, but it didn’t take long for the pool of reporters to steer the questioning to the partisan and bitter fight in the lame duck legislature over changes to voter initiatives and proposals that would strip incoming democratic leaders of some of their authority.
There were a few national news organizations on hand, and that was the story they were interested in.
He would only say if a bill is good for the state, he will sign it.
He was pressed several times on the questions and managed to avoid giving any clues which way he will go on any of the controversial bills.
But the Michigan House has sent one bill to the Governor that he is almost sure to sign.
It creates a new State Authority to oversee and underground tunnel under the Straits of Mackinac, to replace Line 5.
Some Democrats crossed over to support it and a few Republicans defected to the opposition.
Snyder is expected to sign it quickly and appoint its three members.
But the quick rush to create the authority during lame duck may have left constitutional problems that may be challenged in court by the incoming Whitmer Administration.
The Governor-elect and a number of environmental groups oppose letting Line 5 continue to operate for another decade while they dig the tunnel.
