KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — While his financial situation appears bleak, Arcadia Brewery owner Tim Surprise has issued a statement saying his business is “in transition” and that he is working to make sure that it continues to have a presence in Kalamazoo.
The Brew pub has not only been one of the larger of the dozen or so craft breweries in the city, but its helped spur development on the east side of the downtown and served as the venue for a number of community events.
That’s why it was a surprise when it was revealed this week that the Brew-pub is facing foreclosure, owing $1.4-million to creditors. County Treasurer Mary Balkema says Arcadia owes over $150,000 in back taxes.
In retrospect, it may now explain the closure of the firm’s original location in Battle Creek, which was never explained.
