LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — A number of Michigan officials have released statements following the death of President George H. W. Bush Friday night.
Governor Rick Snyder has ordered flags flown at half-staff for the next 30 days. Snyder adding; “George H.W. Bush was a great person who served his nation not only in the military and as President but as a role model for all of us.”
Senator Debbie Stabenow says “Our hearts are with the entire bush family during this difficult time, and Senator Gary Peters says “Bush demonstrated grace and a fierce dedication to America and her ideals in everything he did”.
Former State Republican Party Chair Saul Anuzis says Bush had a storybook life from War Hero to collegiate baseball player to a life in public service that included Congress, the CIA and both Vice-President and President.
Rep. Fred Upton, who served in the Reagan Administration with Bush, says “He now joins his wife Barbara in eternal peace. Amey and I join with all Americans to celebrate his life and mourn his death”
The flag draped coffin of the late President will lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda from Monday evening until Wednesday morning when funeral services will be held at the National Cathedral.
He will then be returned to Houston for another funeral service at St. Martin Episcopal Thursday morning, followed by interment at the Bush Library at Texas A & M University.
