UNDATED (WKZO AM/FM) — After days of buying at big retailers, small businesses, and online websites, Tuesday is all about giving.
Giving Tuesday is a global day of using your time, talents, or treasures to help a family, a local community, or even a national organization.
In fact last year alone nearly 100 countries took part in various Giving Tuesday events.
Local non-profits in need can be found at givingtuesday.org.
But before you give away, make sure you’re giving to the right organizations.
Attorney General Bill Schuette is encouraging Michiganders to do their research before they get too generous on this Giving Tuesday.
He along with the Michigan Nonprofit Association, the Council of Michigan Foundations and Michigan Association of United Ways are releasing their annual “Giving Wisely” brochure.
The free handout tips about nonprofit research, safety and security when donating online, and information on legitimate charities families can give to this holiday season.
The Giving Wisely online document can be found at michigan.gov.
