KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Mayor Bobby Hopewell and the rest of the City Commission has turned on the holiday lights in Bronson Park, with an enormous amount of help from the City Utility Department and the Forester, who actually did all the work.
That means the Christmas season is officially underway.
A crowd estimated at 3,000 was on hand as the Mayor counted down the big event and Santa personally flipped the switch.
The weather was comparatively mild after a couple weeks of freezing temperatures.
There were carols and hot cocoa, the food trucks were parked nearby and Santa stuck around to take a few requests from younger residents of the community.
Portage will hold their tree-lighting ceremonies next Saturday.
