KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo Public Safety officer is at Bronson Methodist after was struck by a car while working a murder case on North Douglas near the scene of a weekend shooting.
Officers were doing a door-to-door canvas of the neighborhood during the noon hour when a sedan swerved to avoid a car stopped on Douglas, jumped the curb and hit the officer on the sidewalk.
Chief Karianne Thomas says the officer is expected to recover.
Other officers nearby immediately began treatment.
The driver has not been cited but the investigation is ongoing.
Very few details about the shooting officers were investigating have been released, including the names of the two victims, one who died.
City Commissioner Eric Cunningham apparently knows who it was because he talked about the victim of gun violence at Monday night’s City Commission meeting.
The other shooting victim was treated and released.
