DEARBORN (WKZO AM/FM) — A near record 48.5-million travelers nationwide are planning to hit the road for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Triple A Michigan projects more than 1.7-million Michiganders will travel 50 or more miles during the holiday period which begins the day before Thanksgiving and runs until Sunday night.
AAA Spokesperson Nancy Cain says 1.5 of those travelers will be journeying by car, so expect some busier roads as we near closer to the holiday.
Gas Prices as we prepare to travel over the river and through the woods for Thanksgiving are the lowest they have been in Michigan in two years after pump prices fell to an average statewide of $2.49/gallon, that’s another 12-cent decline in the past week.
Gas Pollster Trilby Lundberg says the national average has also dropped 12-cents in the past two weeks, and for the same reason, lower crude oil prices.
AAA’s Nancy Cain says Southwest Michigan is enjoying the lowest prices in the state, ranging between $2.34 and $2.40/gallon, or about 30-cents lower than the national average.
