UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM) — In his note to the public announcing Jennie-O’s recall of raw turkey meet, Steve Lykken, the company’s president, expressed concern that anyone would get ill.
But Lykken’s note also disclosed that the Salmonella Reading strain has been detected at 29 different manufacturing plants owned by 19 different companies. Federal investigators believe this Salmonella outbreak is throughout the turkey production industry.
Jennie-O is recalling just over 91,000 pounds of raw ground turkey products that may be associated with an illness outbreak of Salmonella Reading.
The company’s announcement said the raw ground turkey products items were produced on Sept. 11, 2018. Consumers should look for the following information on any meat they may have purchased an frozen:
- 1-lb. packages of “Jennie-O GROUND TURKEY 93% LEAN | 7% FAT” with “Use by” dates of 10/01/2018 and 10/02/2018.
- 1-lb. packages of “Jennie-O TACO SEASONED GROUND TURKEY” with a “Use by” date of 10/02/2018.
- 1-lb. packages of “Jennie-O GROUND TURKEY 85% LEAN | 15% FAT” with a “Use by” date of 10/02/2018.
- 1-lb. packages of “Jennie-O ITALIAN SEASONED GROUND TURKEY” with a “Use by” date of 10/02/2018.
Each package has an establishment number, “P-190,” inside the USDA mark of inspection and were shipped to retail locations nationwide, according to Jennie-O’s announcement.
