LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — State Representative Jon Hoadley says he hasn’t seen the list of bills the Republican Leadership hopes to pass during the Lame Duck Session, but he hopes voters will pay attention and let their lawmakers know when they have gone too far.
Hoadley says there are 12-days left in the session and many bills that lawmakers wouldn’t go near before the election may come up for votes yet this year, and pass.
Legislation like sports betting, higher tipping fees at landfills and the agreement between the Snyder administration and Canadian energy firm Enbridge to encase the company’s Line 5 pipelines in a concrete tunnel under the Straits of Mackinac.
Snyder needs approval from the legislature, and an agreement with the Mackinac Bridge Authority to assume oversite of the tunnel.
Both Governor-elect Gretchen Whitmer and Attorney General-elect Dana Nessel oppose the plan, and instead want the pipelines completely shut down.
The deal was made last month to have Enbridge build the 350-million dollar tunnel to protect the Great Lakes from any potential oil spill.
The pipelines take crude oil and natural gas from western Canada to refineries in Sarnia, Ontario, and Detroit.
Hoadley thinks the way the deal is structured is unconstitutional and thinks the new Attorney General would have grounds for a court challenge.
The “Lame Duck” session takes place between The Thanksgiving break and the Christmas break.
