KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Some races were too close to call before midnight on election night, including the race for the 6th District seat between incumbent Republican Fred Upton and Democrat Matt Longjohn.
Now, Upton’s campaign is declaring victory but only by a slim margin.
As of 1:30 a.m., unofficial polling results showed Upton at 49.8%, Longjohn at 46.1%, and Stephen Young at about 4% with about 90% of the precincts reported.
A spokesperson for Longjohn’s campaign says they will seek a recount.
The two debated in the WKZO studios in mid-October on questions ranging from Longjohn’s M.D. title to fixing the roads, improving Michigan’s schools, the PFAS issue, and more.
